No, you can't learn it in a pool. Get an instructor to teach you lessons while you're at the beach. You don't need a board for yourself until you are even sure you like to surf. Rent a board. You'll be set up with one while you're there, and unless you can surf regularly, you'll save a lot of money by not buying one.
